-
- COLCHESTER, VERMONT 6/20/91: Selectech, Ltd. announced today that it started
- shipping its new AirMouse™ Remote Control for professionals. The AirMouse
- Remote Control is a very simple-to-use remote control for all interactive
- computer and video systems. It works seemlessly with the Apple Macintosh, IBM
- PCs running DOS and Windows, and the Commodore Amiga.
-
- “The AirMouse Technology uses leading edge infrared communications to let the
- user point the AirMouse Remote at the screen and select a function with a light
- touch of one button. That is all that is needed to pilot any interactive video
- program,” said Jim Richards, president of Selectech. The AirMouse Remote
- Control has two components - a Base Station that connects to the computer and a
- hand-held remote unit equipped with two buttons. The buttons perform the same
- function as the buttons on a computer mouse. The AirMouse Remote Control works
- with any display or projection system and requires no calibration. Richards
- added, "The AirMouse remote pointing technology provides an extremely easy way
- to control all types of interactive media, be they business presentations,
- educational and training programs, or advanced multimedia systems. Now, the
- presenter is free to move about the room without being tied to the computer or
- frustrated by operating a complex keyboard-style remote."
-
- The AirMouse Remote Control is pointing the way to better and more interesting
- presentations. The user can pull down menus, select menu items, click and drag,
- click buttons, and open and close files and applications all by pointing and
- picking these functions with the AirMouse hand-held remote.
-
- The AirMouse approach obsoletes track balls, joy sticks and surface-operated
- cordless mice. These controls are either too cumbersome, require considerable
- hand-eye coordination, need two hands to operate properly, are just inherently
- inaccurate, or are limited in operating range.
-
- The AirMouse Base Station connects directly to the Macintosh via the ADB or
- through one of the serial ports. The hand-held AirMouse Remote is pointed at
- the Base Station and can be used out to 10 meters. The user controls the
- computer's cursor by moving the Remote in a free form manner.
-
- “With the AirMouse you just point at the desired function and push one button.
- No other remote control or cordless mouse technology has achieved the natural
- and user-friendly feeling of the AirMouse Remote Control,” said Bill Ewer,
- Selectech's VP of Marketing. It’s the first “true” point and pick device that
- provides an easy means of controlling interactive video systems available
- today... or tomorrow. “The AirMouse Remote Control requires only a few seconds
- of learning and then it’s never forgotten - it’s like riding a bicycle. It
- takes the complexities out of navigating through multi-level menus inherent to
- these advanced video technologies. It’s the magic wand of the interactive
- presentation and training arena,” added Ewer.
-
- Selectech is distributing its professional AirMouse model through U.S. and
- European audio/video dealers and computer VARs. The suggested retail price is
- $595.
